Dungeons and Dragons (Podcast WIP)

I have been playing D&D since I was in high school. I learned about it from some friends. They had the 3.5 edition, almost all the books. Yes, that is a duffel bag full of books, and I played a wizard. Some of you know what I was getting myself into. There are already a lot of rules in that edition of D&D and when you add all you need to know for spell casting on top of it, well, without going into an entirely new blog post, let’s just say it’s a challenge.

From there I was most interested in what the Dungeon Master does. Basically, they run the world, create and moderate the game, control the flow and keep everybody on track. I knew that was what I wanted to do. I got all the core rule books, the Dungeon Master’s Guide, Player’s Handbook, and Monster Manual and I spent several weeks reading them all. I created a world for the players to explore and I had a lot of fun doing it. No one objected to me taking over as the DM (Dungeon Master).

So for the last 12 years I have been running a game in some form or the other. I’ve lost touch with my high school friends but I’ve made new ones and introduced them to my style of play.

I’ve met new DMs and learned about how different a game can be depending on the one running it. I’ve seen some of my friends pick up the game on their own and I’m proud that I showed it to them. I recently started playing 5th edition and am absolutely in love with it.  D&D is a challenge to me again with this improved system. It is easier than ever for new players to get started without being intimidated by all the rules and books.

Now, why am I writing all this? You might be asking or maybe you guessed from the title. I am going to be starting a D&D podcast with a friend of mine. He goes by @DungeonMitch on Twitter and you should follow him. We are very excited to start it up. There are a few more episodes to be recorded before releasing it. We are having a blast recording this and it is super fun. Follow the SoundCloud link below to listen to the recording of our bloopers as a taste of what is to come.
